The task for this week was the laundry room. This is a room, that I am updating little by little. It used to be a room with no cabinets and I've added cabinets within the past two years to give me more storage space.
As with any space, it is very important that you take out everything in order to organize it well. I have a ledge behind the washer and dryer, that can serve as a shelf, so I put cleaning supplies on top of it. I didn't want for all the supplies to be visible, especially the vent from the drying machine. It's such an eyesore, so I made a little curtain out of an old bed skirt and placed it across.
I then went about organizing some of my linens into bins and placed them in the cabinets. I then put my detergents and fabric softners, and laundry items on the bottom shelf, so that's easily accesible, and then to pay homage to science, I placed beakers in there for dispensing and measuring. I placed little baskets on the walls, so that I can put change and loose items that I find inside of pockets.
I ended up making myself a little ironing board, because it becomes cumbersome to keep taking down the ironing board, which I have stored behind the door. I placed some guides on the inside doors of the cabinets to have information on hand for when I'm doing laundry. I utilized a shelving unit that I got from Ikea for storage of my linens, but also for an area to fold clothes.
I then went about adding little touches here and there. I wanted my colors to be Caribbean Blue and Orange. So I added a carpet and a runner from the Christmas Tree Shop. I used a little suitcase that I got from Target to store my fabric softner sheets. The little baskets for loose change and parts are from AC Moore. I created a covering for my Ikea shelving unit using cardboard, sheets, and ribbon. Everything used to make the covering was old material that was about to get thrown away. There are ways to bring old things back to life to serve a different purpose.
I bought the cabinets from Ikea. The bins were from Dollar Tree and the beakers were from the Christmas Tree Shop. The laundry bag is from Home Goods. The washboard is from Michaels.
This room will keep getting updated as time goes by, but I think I'm almost there. I will do updates as I make any changes. I hope you draw some ideas and inspiration from this posting.
